Bali
I visited Bali with my mum from 22 to 26 March 2026, on our return journey from New Zealand. Unfortunately, my wife was unable to join us, as she could not get annual leave approved at work. During our stay, the temperature was typically around 30–32°C, although the high humidity made it feel closer to 38–39°C each day. It was very warm, but also beautiful, with the sun at midday seeming almost directly overhead. Bali is a fascinating and very affordable destination. Despite the fact that many local people live on modest incomes, often averaging around £130 per month, they are incredibly welcoming, kind, and always smiling. Their warmth and friendliness leave a lasting impression. The food was very tasty, with plenty of flavour and variety. Meals generally cost between £1.50 and £4, depending on where you choose to eat. A 620ml beer in a restaurant usually costs between 50,000 and 100,000 Indonesian rupiah, with the exchange rate being approximately £1 to 22,000 rupiah. What makes Bali especially memorable is not only its tropical climate and good value, but also its unique atmosphere, shaped by beautiful landscapes, local traditions, and the genuine hospitality of its people.
